PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Objective: To find a solution to tree cutting in the name of development.

India has been on the path of development and urbanization for several years now. But it has come with a heavy price. The impact of urbanization and development of rural areas of India has to be seen to be believed. Rampant deforestation has resulted in a steep rise in temperatures, loosening of soil, landslides, mudslides, disruption of the water cycle, contributing to global warming and climate change. Ignorance of the harmful practices of slash and burn by farmers has added to the adverse impact. People residing in these areas have borne the brunt for far too long. Lack of education has added to all of this.

As India moves towards hundred percent literacy, the reaction of the youth in these areas to these problems is increasingly visible.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

Rituparn Kulkarni of grade 8, Jaihind Public School, Udgir, Maharashtra was moved by the cutting down of trees in the name of development. He conceptualized, designed and invented a model for translocation of trees, to continue to let the trees help the environment. Using Pascal’s law and the principles of hydraulics, he has designed a mechanism to facilitate easy relocation of trees.

Translocation of trees is gaining acceptance in Gujarat,India using a scaled up model for bigger trees. Rituparn’s invention could ease the burden and save the trees of our country.
